Snitch is an American crime drama film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Dwayne Johnson.
This is totally a different kinda film of what you expect it to be. If you go with the expectation of some kinda hardcore action film genre, then you totally got it wrong. This is a family drama with a strong story built and with a good message all around.
Alright Snitch, the plot revolves around a everyday normal father John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) whose son is been stuck up in a nacrotic drug dealing case and been charged for serving 10 years in jail. So after the guiltiness built up in his son, John decides to somehow bring his son back to home for leading a normal life. So he arranges several meetings with Joanne Keeghan (Susan Sarandon) who serves as the district attorney and eventually helps her in infiltrating the drug dealing thugs around the city as she promises to reduce his son's penalty.
The performances, these were the essential things of the film where you want to drive the movie with some kinda family drama, the performances just have to be perfect and to my surprise The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson is actually amazing in this movie, he turns out to be a responsible father who dont even know to kick the ass of the opponents. This is entirely different, apart from all his body build up he actually gives a mesmerizing performance with his dramatic scenes and i think he should continue doing these kinda roles in the future. A good try which turned out to be magnificent. Jon Bernthal as Rock's companion is good in whatever his role offers him to be, he's a family guy with all his family issues dropping on his head and the performance built up with all the different kinda expressions was good. And about the others, they've done an pretty neat job.
The direction from Ric Roman Waugh was normal. I really appreciate him for showing up with a meaningful story, not the non-sense thrillers we've seen in this year. This is based upon the real life incidents which will keep us appealing and engaged as the story proceeds. But i really have a complaint about the time length of the movie, why so long? its absolutely interesting till a certain point, but after that, it leaves you with distress when you actually feel like when its going to end?
And about the other flaw, the shaky cam at times. This is absolutely terrible and awful when you watch the movie. Like, when a serious discussion is going on why is the camera shaking its utterly not needed. The realistic feel where they actaully thought to bring up in the action sequences didnt actaully workout.
And i really loved the violin surrounded background score in the film which actually made me feel for the dramatic scenes. Good work!
Finally, dont go with a expectation that The Rock will blow up everything which confronts him, this is a soft going movie with the story and the performances as its main strength. This is completely a watchable movie and one of the good movies that showed up in this year. A brave attempt! Thumbs Up!!
My Rating - 3/5
