Verdict: “A decent thriller”.
The Frozen Ground was based on true events happened in Alaska and enlightens you the story of a brutal serial killer named Robert Hansen who slaughtered numerous amount of girls by torturing them sexually and physically.
The main characters were played Nicolas Cage who was the district sergeant and the chief officer in pursuit. Vanessa Hudgens plays the role of a prostitute who had logically escaped from being murdered by Robert and she was the only hope for the police department to explore the case. And John Cussack as Robert Hansen, the ruthless murderer. The plot travels around various things, where we learn about the girls missing, the main characters and finally the takedown of the criminal.
As its based on true events, the movie takes no time to establish itself. It hits the point right from its activation and makes you know about each of their lives and characters. Perhaps, the whole thing was predictable but it uncovers the violent truth that was happened back in the day and also about the investigation details.
Nicolas Cage was splendid in the movie, apart from whole lot of things happening around him nowadays, it was enjoyable watching him in a good and a responsible role. Vanessa Hudgens surprised me for a bit with her bold character as she sparkled with her fearsome performance. John Cussack was decent, I don't think he had to carry the whole movie along, but he stood up as the supporting character who is the focal point of the movie.
Covered with whole lot of snow throughout the movie, the cinematographer did an amazing job by capturing things with few incredible chopper shots and by maintaining the gloomy vibe all over. That shows the sensitivity of the director who tried something different and in picking up a genuine plot.
On the whole, The Frozen Ground doesn't deal with some great things nor an exhilarating plot. It meekly reveals one of the most terrifying incidents happened back in 80's with a good sense of drama. Watch it once if you're fascinated about true events.
My Rating - 2.5/5
Grade - C+ (It deserves your attention for a while)
