Verdict - “A complete surprise! Thoughtful and genuine”
The main plot of the movie narrates you the life of Sutter Keely (Miles Teller), pretty much a waggish guy who pursues his life with the motto 'Live the moment!'. After breaking up his relationship with Cassidy (Brie Larson), Sutter come across Aimee (Shailene Woodley), a composed diffident girl who doesn't interact easily. In his relationship with Aimee, Sutter experiences a series of life events which influence his life in many broken ways with an impassable path.
How did he overcome these situations? And realise, that the only problem or hardship he's been facing all the time was only with him.
On the most part, the movie impressed me with the way it's crafted till the very end. With it's simplistic vibe and realistic approach, every scene flourished really well, which made sense eventually. Director James Ponsoldnt, imparted more time for the lead characters to develop where they just talk about their lives and we get to see explanations from each of their sides.
That's the decisive part where the movie mellowed a lot, which was essential for the second act of the movie and in the end you will completely agree with everything being narrated.
That being said, the performances by Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley were brilliant. Shailene's performance as an acquitted down-to-earth girl was one of the best I've seen all year as she mesmerises with her simplicity and was very natural throughout the whole movie.
Miles Teller character was crucial as the whole movie was centered around him and he capitalised every situation really well and never discarded the attention from him.
On the whole, The Spectacular Now was a thoughtful and a contemplative movie which will definitely leave you in a rational way where you just lay back and think about it. It was a well acted and wonderfully presented movie which definitely worth all your time. One of the best movies of 2013 and I'm really glad that I gave it a shot.
My Rating - 4/5 | Grade - A
