Verdict: “An impeccable family entertainer with all neccesary elements”
One thing I implied after watching Chennai Express was that 'Never underestimate the brilliance of Rohil Shetty'. It's been a while since an unsoiled family movie showed up in bollywood and Chennai Express just dispenses everything which is needed for a perfect family entertainer.
The plot gyrates around Rahul (Shahrukh), a 40 year old bachelor who was vexed up with his life and desires for something memorable to happen in his life. After his grandfather being dead, it's now Rahul's responsibility to handle the accustomed honours belonging to his grandpa only because it's the old man's pleasing wish. Due to his other intentions in life he fakes his grandmother that he's gonna fulfil his grandpa's wish. After being boarded in Chennai Express he meets Meenamma (Deepika) who's been kidnapped by her cousins for few reasons.
Eventually, Rahul is been forced to accompany Meenamma to her village as she messes up things around giving few unwanted explanations to her dad (Satyaraj). How did things change around? Will Rahul succeed in his new aspirations in life? You need to board in Chennai Express for the answers.
Talking about the humour and the entertaining factor in the movie, right from the word go, the movie diverts you with witty comedy sequences from the leads. And moreover there were no tawdry parts to snub which is quite rare to find in movies of this generation.
Above all, the timing of every scene in the movie was very well presented.
The director was vibrant in his intentions of where to fling a song or a comedic scene. You just can't take off your attention from the movie and that's probably the best part that a movie require.
Performances, Shahrukh Khan was hilarious throughout the movie, his droll and funny expressions were entertaining. A comprehensive all-round performance, which was dealt with action, romance, comedy and the whole kit that a commercial movie necessitate.
Deepika being the main attraction of the movie was outstanding in the movie, probably the best performance when compared to her early roles. She's utterly mirthful with her south slang and timing. Never a big fan of Deeika, but in this movie she was brilliant and indeed was attractive in her traditional outfits. And I really loved the way they displayed Deepika's name before Shahrukh in which we can conclude how important was her role in the movie.
Rohit Shetty was a very strategic director, he knows how to deliver a blockbuster with pure commercial sequences and was quite strong in portraying a well furnished sequence. He did a great job in entertaining people even the movie was compelled with tamil dialouges in the most part.
A special commendation needed for the cinematographer of the movie, he beautifully captured every single frame with a good shade of light when it's needed and a picturesque panorama when required.
Music by Vishal-Shekhar mended well with the movie, it added the essential ingredient that is needed and in the most part you'l definitely enjoy them watching them visually.
If I can pick few flaws from the movie, I'l go with the storyline which was quite predictable of what's gonna happen further, you'l see a typical south indian movie vibe surrounding around which may aggravate few people.
To sum it up, Chennai Express is a complete family entertainer, it will definitely entertain all the classes. If you really wanna have a good time with your friends and family, CE must be your pick. I highly recommend it for all categories of people, watch it as a movie, in a proper mood and this will never let down your expectations.
