ABCD: Anybody Can Dance is the India's first 3D dance film. It is being directed by director and choreographer Remo D'Souza and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur.
Plot: The movie kicks off with a dance reality show "Dance Dil Se" where Jehangir Dance Company (JDC) owned by Jehangir (Kay Kay Menon) had just won the finale but after a collide between the displeased group choreographer Vishnu (Prabhudeva) and Jehangir, Vishnu leaves the group and was replaced by an American choreographer.
The traumatized Vishnu goes to his friend Gopi's (Ganesh Acharya) place and prepares to leave to his hometown Chennai. Later on he confronts a group of street guys in the Ganesh visarjan ceremonial and discovers an impressive dancing talent in them. He now forms his own horde and trains them to vie with JDC in the next Dance Dil Se season. What happens next! Will they able to win the title of Dance Dil Se find out in the theatres nearby.
Cast: The Indian Michael Jackson Prabhudeva returns to his leading strength after many long years and sways us with his striking dancemoves mainly in the scene before the interval. Ofcourse he's too old now to bring back the crazy spirit in him but he overall impresses. Acting wise he's ok and could have done better. Kay Kay Menon is persuasive with his debauched attitude whereas Ganesh Acharya is funny with his affable character and is avoidable in few scenes. The young and robust new comers were quite splendid and were skillful in their dance sequences.
Crew: Remo D' Souza has come up with a routine predictable and arid story but had done a good job when it comes to the main trait DANCE. The pre-interval fusion segment of Prabhudeva and the climax grand finale were the highlights. The main theme was concentrated well which made the drama a bit tedious. The cinematography was stupendous and the editing was fine. Music and Bgm by Sachin-Jigar deserves a special approbation.
Final Verdict: ABCD is an amalgam of all types of commercial elements. The plot was simple and the dance part is exceptional. You may not feel overwhelmed when uve already seen the English Step Up series. But watch it as an Indian cinema. We've got an captivating talent too. 3D was good at times and was watchable. Overall ABCD is a feast for all dance lovers and for the mainstream audience too.
My Rating - 3.5/5
