This is one of the most anticipated album of the year, composed by Academy Award Winner A.R.Rahman, has released nearly 2 years later than his last chartbusters. Kadal has the hit combination of ManiRatnam & A.R.Rahman and the lyricist duo Vairamuthu and his son Karky, starring Gowtham Karthick and Tulasi Nair, it is the most awaited movie of 2013.
The album contains seven songs crooned by various artist. A.R.Rahman himself crooned two songs. The album became a huge hit upon its release and was #1 in iTunes. Songs have already topped the charts.
1. Chithirai Nela
Singers: Vijay Yesudas
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
This song starts with a baby's cry and slowly picks-up with the caring voice of Vijay Yesudas. Words of Vairamuthu are emotional and motivational. An ear soothing melody number.
2.Adiye
Singers: Sid Sriram
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Its a new genre, mixture of Gospel, blues and jazz with a local touch. Karky has ensured that his lyrics match it perfectly. Sid Sriram's voice and additional jazz vocals by Maria Roe Vincent are to be mentioned for their soulful singing. Classic from Rahman..!
3.Moongil Thottam
Singers: Abhay Jodhpurkar, Harini
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
This could be the hit number of the album. Abhay Jodhpurkar & Harini have put a lots effort in crooning vividly written lyrics of Vairamuthu. The songs contains only guitar and strings with solo keyboard at the times. You are sure to fall in love with the song when you repeatedly listen to it.
4.Elay Keechaan
Singers: A.R. Rahman
Lyrics: Madan Karky
This is my favourite song from the album and so will be yours, crooned by A.R.Rahman. The song starts with a loud shout by ARR followed by peppy guitar tunes. The humming part throughout the song and the additional vocals are brilliant. Lyrics penned is Karky is different and is difficult to catch it when you listen for first time. The beats and sound of the song reminds us the fisherman settings. Purely Divine music by A.R.Rahman.
5.Nenjukkule
Singers: A.R. Rahman, Shakthisree Gopalan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
This song topped the charts even before the release of the entire album when A.R.Rahman and Shakthisree performed it in MTV Unplugged. The movie version with extra beats and flute made it pleasant to listen. Shakthisree rendered her voice for a soulful singing to this melody composed by Rahman.
6. Anbin Vaasale
Singers: Haricharan Seshadri
Lyrics: Madan Karky
This song has a gospel feel with it begining with church bell and choir. Lyrics by Karky reflect the same. Haricharan has given a powerpacked performance and has surrendered himself to the song. With full of Violin and strings, only A.R.Rahman can compose something different like this.
7. Magudi Magudi
Singers: Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam, Chinmayee,Tanvi Shah
Lyrics: Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam
Only song in the album with digital and electronic mixes. Starts of with a thavvil and electronic beats and repeation of the word Magudi. Also the song has some dialogues from the film.
Final Verdict: A.R.Rahman has produced a fresh new album which defines him. Kadal will be enriching to the listeners. Lets see how Mani Ratnam picturises these hit numbers and perfectly fit it in his film.
My Rating - 4/5
