Kadal is a Tamil Drama movie directed by Mani Rathnam. It stars Gautham Karthik, son of Karthik and Tulasi Nair, daughter of Radha. It also has Arjun and Arvind Swamy playing very important roles. A.R.Rahman scores music for this film and Rajiv Menon handles the Camera.
Plot-Sam Fernandez (Arvind Swamy), who is sincere and dedicated, and Bergman (Arjun), who is fun loving guy are undergoing training for priesthood at a Christian Seminary. But following a few difference between them, they choose different paths of life. Sam comes to a sea side town and starts his life as a father in a Church. He meets a young orphan boy Thomas (Gautham Karthik), who has lost his mother and takes special interest in this boy. Years later, Thomas falls in love with Bergman' daughter Beatrice (Tulasi Nair). What happens next will form the crux of the story.
The Basic plot of the film is about Good Vs Evil. Mani Rathnam narrates it in a complex way.
Cast- Gautham and Tulasi have done a very good job in their debut venture. Gautham looks promising and his chemistry with Tulasi is a treat. Tulasi also makes an impression. Arvind Swamy has done a good comeback and this yesteryear's dream boy retains his charm. "Action King" Arjun has done a brilliant performance in this movie. He shows off his acting skill and his dialogue delivery and body language were excellent.
Crew- A.R.Rahman's background score is the main highlight in this movie. Songs by him were a treat, especially the hit numbers Nenjukkule and Elay Keechan. Rajiv Menon beautifully captures the seas and beaches. His picturisation is a visual treat. Sreekar Prasad's editing and Shashidhar Adappa's art direction is fantastic.
Plus Points- Excellent performance by the lead actors, A.R.Rahman's BGM and Songs. Rajiv Menon's beautiful picturisation.
Minus Points- The slow-paced narration and few dragging scenes may test your patience. Major drawback is that is drags towards the end of the movie.
Final Verdict- Kadal didn't meet up with the expectation, but can be watched once for Mani Rathnam's attempt, he really deserves an applaud.
My Rating-3/5
