Singam 2, directed by Hari is the most awaited sequel to 2010 Blockbuster movie Singam starring Surya in the lead. The ensemble list of cast includes Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Danny Sapani, Rahman, Mukesh Rishi, Santhanam and Vivek. It also has some of the cast who acted in the prequel.
Plot: The story picks-up where it ends in the prequel, Durai Singam (Surya) is now working as a NCC master in a school and is in surveillance of the Thoothukudi sea shore watching out for illegal smuggling. Bhai (Mukesh) and Thangaraj (Rahman), the delinquents with big political backgrounds join hands with Danny (Danny Sapani), an international drug dealer. Is Durai Singam able to stop their illegal activities? Find it in the theatres near you!
Positives:
• Surya’s onscreen presence and body language.
• Racy First Half
• Perfect mixture of action, sentiment, love and comedy
• Crisp Narration
• Punch Dialogues and Funny one-liners by Santhanam
Negatives:
• Lengthy second half- a major setback. Trimming it by at least 10-15 minutes would have made the film much more interesting and racier.
Performances: Surya in the role of the most adored Cop Durai Singam shines again with his Charisma, onscreen presence, stylish moustache, fiery dialogue delivery, body language and brilliant acting. His sincerity and dedication towards his work needs to be applauded. The rest of the cast, though they had nothing much to do, did their jobs well. Santhanam as usual rocked with his rib tickling comedy. Most from the huge list of cast hardly had a purpose. It’s a One Man Show from Surya!
Crew: Cinematography by Priyan was stupendous in capturing Thoothukudi locals and South Africa. Editing by V.T.Vijayan was fine. Director Hari has used his usual ingredients in making this Action-Masala film and has once again given a clean family entertainer. A racy plot and he had kept us entertained with though predictable yet engaging screenplay. Background music by Devi Sri Prasad were not much impressive. Songs were good. The Hit number “Singam Dance” was choreographed well.
Finally, Singam 2 is out and out racy Action-Masala film. Can’t say that its better than its prequel, but it’s better than Surya’s last two dull flicks.
My Rating - 3.5/5
Grade- B+ (A perfect weekend pick)
