Verdict: “Falls short on the entertainment factor”.
Naiyaandi, the latest release stars Dhanush & Nazriya Nazim in the lead. The movie is a remake of 1993 released Malayalam flick “Meleparambil Aanveedu”. Directed by Sarkunam, the films music was scored by Gibran and camera was handled by Velraj.
The Plot revolves around Chinna Vandu, youngest son of a Kuthu Vilaku shop owner lives at his Uncles place. He has two elder brothers who are around forty years old and yet unmarried. Chinna Vandu (Dhanush) falls for Vana Roja (Nazriya) who comes to attend the village temple function. Soon they both love, but Vana Roja’s father fix marriage for her with another guy. Knowing her father’s plan, Chinna Vandu and Vana Roja elope and get married.
He brings her to his house in Kumbakonam through his cousin (Soori) saying her as an orphan girl and make her as worker in his kuthu vilaku shop. Knowing her to be an orphan, Chinna Vandu brother’s try to impress her. During this time, the guy with whom Vana Roja’s marriage was fixed comes in search for her. Does he find her? Did Chinna Vandu say that Vana Roja is her wife to his family? That forms the rest of the plot.
The plot is not a new one, we have seen same kind of movies in the past. Also the plot is predictable at times. Director Sarkunam has got nothing new to offer us. Technically, this film is bad. Cinematography and music of the film were good.
Dhanush and Nazriya Nazim were the only reason to make me watch the film till the end. They gave some good performances. Others Sriman, Sathyan, Soori, Sathish, Imman Annachi, and Singampuli had done their role well.
The movie drags in the first half. There is nothing engaging, even the funny scenes fall flat and doesn’t make us laugh. The second half was little entertaining. The scenes between the brothers try to woo Nazriya were laugh-worthy.
Finally, Naiyaandi isn’t that entertaining. Watch it if you just want to pass your time by watching a movie.
My Rating - 2/5
Grade - C (Meh! Probably a rental)
