At last the “Kolaveri” star had made his debut in bollywood, and he shot the bull’s eye as a romantic hero. Raanjhanaa directed by Anand L. Rai is a dreamy romantic movie starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor in the leads. Music is composed by the Grammy winner A.R.Rahman.
So, this is not the bollywood kinda romance flick you expect, this had something more to deal with. More intense and deep, conveying love in a pure form through ever lasting characters.
Plot: The story revolves around Kundan (Dhanush), son of a Hindu pandit in Varanasi, is deeply in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor), hailing from an Orthodox Muslim family. He proposes her but gets slapped and rejected. After ‘n’ number of tries and emotional blackmailing he gets her in his ways. Before the love blossoms, the orthodox parents of Zoya sends her to Delhi to complete her studies. 8 years later, Kundan is still waiting for her, but later comes to know that she is in love with some young political lad. With condemned love, unlucky with death and few youth political moments, do Zoya and Kundan come together? That forms the crux of the story.
Performances in this film are highly exceptional. The lead actors had given some extraordinary acts. As this is the Bollywood debut for “National Award” winner Dhanush, he had been outstanding throughout the movie. He truly impresses with his expressions, language and one-liners. Others, Abhay Deol, Swara, and Mohammad Zeeshan had done a fine job with the respective roles given to them.
Anand L. Rai direction is marvellous and adequate for the film. A different story line and he had made it flawless. Cinematographers Natarajan and Vishal had done a very good job in capturing religious locals and was eye pleasing. Himesh Sharma deserves a special mention here. His dialogues were a Big Plus to the movie. He had penned the dialogues sharp, simple and funny.
Music by “The Mozart of Madras” is a sheer classic. His songs will dwell deep into your heart. Background score is an extravaganza for the film.
Finally, Raanjhanaa is a classic romantic movie with hatred, revenge, passionate love which you would not see amidst in today’s clinched bollywood romantic flicks.
