Verdict: “An underrated decent action thriller”
Ok! Let me get this straight and simple!
Joseph Smith (Jason Statham) is an ex-Royal Marine who worked for his military in Afghanistan and returns back to his hometown London due to few defective sequences. So on the other side, he's a struggler in the London streets trying to get back his life. Due to few unforeseen incidents he hacks cks into a grand apartment where he intends to take shelter in, and at the same time he's in search for his friend who had disappeared for a while. As he finds company with a nun Cristina (Agata Buzek) he discovers few things which really brings a change in him and his everyday life. What's the bitter truth behind Joseph's amendments? Find out in "Redemption".
Issues! I don't have any real ones. Maybe the plot was too simple and routine but it was narrated in a brief way with much needed emotional scenes and characterizations. It really showed the dark side of the criminal activities which are happening around. Few emotional sequences really smacked me hard, like I said the humour was really great but a different storyline might have worked out really well.
Jason Statham was splendid as usual, but his characterization was all the same when compared to his previous ones. But this character is more intense and deep, he performed well in few emotional and dramatic scenes. Few action sequences were been delivered, as we usually expect them from a Statham flick. Agata Buzek shared a decent and a vital role in the movie, her calmness and innocence really added that supple flavour to the movie which was quite refreshing.
Direction from Steven Knight was decent, the bitter dark side struggle of a poor individual was really well shown. He added those commercial elements which we've seen around and those really didn't enthuse me much but it succeeded in keeping me in engaged into the movie.
Overall, "Redemption" is a decent action drama. There's nothing new in the plot, but I really enjoyed watching it. Give it a shot if deep action drama genres are your thing.
My Rating 3/5
